Man sentenced to 20 years for 2021 fatal hit-and-run crash in Clay County

The driver who turned himself into authorities hours after a 2021 fatal head-on crash in Clay County was sentenced to 20 years in prison Tuesday.

Jonathan Davis pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of the crash on County Road 218 that left 23-year-old Cassidy Mongeon clinging to life in the hospital before she died from her injuries.

Her family said she was on her way from work when Davis crossed the center lane and struck her vehicle head-on. Investigators said Davis left the scene and hid in the woods overnight before turning himself in.

After repeated delays, he was sentenced. Court records show Davis had dozens of traffic citations, dating back to 2001.
