JSO members attend city council meeting to support bill that some say would give them ‘veto power’ over settlements

Several members of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office attended a Tuesday city council meeting to support a bill that the law enforcement agency said would give officers a seat at the table for legal settlements involving JSO.

The officers sat at the meeting as critics spoke during public comment, urging city council members to reject the legislation.

The concerned community members said the proposed legislation would give Sheriff T.K. Waters and other constitutional officers “veto power” over legal settlements involving their staff.

News4JAX will provide updates on the decision as city council addresses this and several other amendments.
