Teen Son of Murder Victim Charged in Jacksonville Shooting

Tragedy struck twice this past week as the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) responded to two separate shooting incidents that were later found to be linked.

The first incident occurred on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, in the 6800 block of Sandle Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered Shane Payne inside his residence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Payne was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Just three days later, on Saturday, August 6, 2022, JSO responded to another shooting, this time in the 4800 block of Ortega Farms Boulevard. Timothy Dixon was found at the scene with a gunshot wound and was rushed to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Following thorough investigations by JSO Homicide Detectives and the Crime Scene Unit, it was determined that these two incidents were connected. Timothy Dixon, aged 16, was identified as the suspect responsible for the killing of Shane Payne, with alleged assistance from his son, Shane Payne Jr., aged 17.

Shane Payne Jr., who was already incarcerated at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility on unrelated charges, was identified as the suspect responsible for the death of Timothy Dixon.

JSO has since issued an additional arrest warrant for Shane Payne Jr., charging him with two counts of Second-Degree Murder and Conspiracy to Commit Murder in connection with the two incidents.
