On July 31, 2024, a 77-year-old female was walking in the parking lot of the CVS located at 3771 Clyde Morris Blvd. in Port Orange, Florida. An unidentified male approached the female, grabbing her purse and other belongings. During the struggle, the female was knocked to the pavement, resulting in injuries. The suspect fled the scene in a black, older model Ford Expedition.
On August 12, 2024, a 64-year-old female was walking in the same CVS parking lot at 3771 Clyde Morris Blvd. An unidentified male, matching the description from the July 31 incident, approached the female and grabbed her purse and belongings. The female was also knocked to the ground, causing injuries. The suspect once again fled in a black, older model Ford Expedition.
Port Orange Detectives and Patrol Officers were able to locate and detain the suspect. The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Charles Nelson, confessed to both incidents and an earlier similar incident in South Daytona. Charles Nelson is currently in custody at The Volusia County Branch Jail. He has been charged with Robbery by Sudden Snatching, Battery on a Person Over 60, Grand Theft, Fraud, and Use of a 2-Way Communication Device to Facilitate a Felony in connection with the two Port Orange incidents. Additional charges are pending further investigation.
