On the night of Friday, November 29, 2024, Citrus County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a residence on W Oak Street in Crystal River after reports of a violent individual.
Upon investigation, deputies determined that 25-year-old Luke Daniel Adams had shot his dog in the back of the neck with a crossbow in a wooded area behind his home. After inflicting the injury, Adams removed the arrow but left its tip embedded in the dog’s wound. He then placed the injured dog in the front seat of his truck and returned inside his house.
A concerned citizen noticed the dog in distress and alerted law enforcement. Citrus County Animal Control Officers arrived at the scene, seized the dog, and transported it for immediate veterinary care.
Despite the extensive efforts of emergency veterinarians, the dog succumbed to its injuries.
Luke Adams was arrested and charged with one count of felony animal cruelty. His bond has been set at $2,500.
