Man Sentenced to 35 Years for Fatal Nightclub Shooting After International Flight Escape

On Thursday, January 9, 2025, a judge sentenced Alexander Evans, 34, of Fort Myers, to 35 years in prison for his involvement in the fatal shooting outside a Naples nightclub in 2022. Evans pleaded no contest to charges of second-degree murder with a firearm, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and battery on a person 65 or older. He was adjudicated guilty and will serve a minimum of 25 years in prison.

The shooting occurred on October 8, 2022, outside Cavo Lounge at Mercato after a disturbance between two groups inside the club escalated. Security personnel attempted to escort both groups off the premises, but the altercation continued in the parking lot, where Evans pulled out a gun and shot the victim. The victim died at the scene, and Evans fled the area on foot.

Investigators quickly identified Evans after he left his credit card on a table inside the club. The Collier County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) launched an extensive investigation with the assistance of outside agencies and the community. The investigation revealed that Evans fled the scene and boarded a flight to Europe. Detectives obtained a warrant for his arrest and tracked him as he returned to Florida. Upon arriving in Fort Lauderdale, Evans was arrested by CCSO detectives as he deplaned from a commercial flight.

Sheriff Kevin Rambosk praised the investigation, thanking all involved in bringing Evans to justice. “This was a lengthy and intricate investigation conducted by multiple bureaus within the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from outside agencies and the community,” Rambosk said. “He is now going to prison for a long time.”

In addition to his prison sentence, Evans was ordered to pay $9,866 to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office to cover the cost of the investigation, as well as court costs and the cost of prosecution.
