Alert Citizen Leads to Arrest of Sex Offender Near School Bus Stop in Poinciana

On Friday, January 17, 2024, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man near a school bus stop in Poinciana after a concerned citizen reported suspicious activity.

Around 8:25 a.m., the witness noticed a man standing among small children at the bus stop and felt something was off about his presence. Deputies responded to the scene and identified the man as 37-year-old Jonathan Michael Louis, a resident of Poinciana.

When questioned, Louis claimed he lived near the bus stop but admitted he had no children attending school and could not provide a reason for being there.

A background check revealed Louis is a registered sex offender, convicted in 2004 in Lake County for Lewd and Lascivious Battery involving a victim aged 12 to 15. Deputies also discovered that Louis had failed to notify his parole officer of his current residence after being released from jail in December 2024, as required by law.

Louis was arrested and booked into the Polk County Jail. He faces charges for Violation of Probation due to Failure to Register and Loitering by a Sex Offender within 300 feet of Children.
