A 16-year-old student was arrested Monday morning after authorities discovered a loaded firearm in his possession at Leto High School.
On February 17, 2025, at approximately 8:25 a.m., a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) School Resource Deputy made contact with Alonzo Bridges after a school administrator activated a Centegix alert upon noticing a suspicious bulge between Bridges’ arm and ribcage.
An administrative search revealed Bridges was carrying a loaded handgun with 15 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber.
Bridges refused to disclose how he obtained the firearm. He was taken into custody and charged with Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds and Minor in Possession of a Firearm.
“I can’t stress this enough: bringing a gun to school is not only dangerous, it’s unacceptable. One bad decision could have changed lives forever today. Thankfully, the school staff and our deputy acted quickly to stop a potential tragedy,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “This reckless behavior will not be tolerated, and we will ensure that anyone who endangers our schools is held accountable.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
