CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — Authorities are investigating a homicide after a man’s body was found inside a burned vehicle in Clay County earlier this month.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Clay County Fire Rescue responded Monday, April 6, 2026, to a vehicle fire near County Road 218 and North Mimosa Avenue in Middleburg.
After firefighters extinguished the blaze, authorities discovered the body of an unidentified man inside the vehicle.
The medical examiner’s office has since ruled the man’s death a homicide, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigators said preliminary findings indicate the vehicle may have been parked in the same location as early as the morning of Sunday, April 5, but the fire did not begin until Monday afternoon.
Authorities have not released the victim’s identity.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
Detectives are asking anyone with surveillance video from the area during the relevant time period, or anyone with information about the case, to contact the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and ask for Detective Nicole Mosley.
