NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. – A man has been arrested after investigators say he stole credit cards from a woman’s purse and later used them to make unauthorized purchases, according to the Neptune Beach Police Department.
The investigation began on June 19 after a woman accidentally left her purse at a dining establishment.
Police said the victim returned to the restaurant after realizing she had left it behind, and the purse was returned to her. Later, however, she discovered several fraudulent charges on her credit card account and realized her credit cards were missing.
Through investigative leads, detectives identified Johnathan Johnson Jr. as the suspect.
On July 9, officers with the Neptune Beach Police Department’s Patrol Division and Criminal Investigations Division responded to Johnson’s workplace and took him into custody without incident.
Johnson was booked into the Duval County Jail on charges that include two counts of credit card theft, two counts of unauthorized use of a credit card to obtain goods valued at less than $300, and one count of petit theft involving property valued at less than $100.
The investigation remains ongoing.
