PORT ORANGE, Fla. – A disturbance investigation at a Port Orange home led to the discovery of a hidden laboratory containing hazardous chemicals, prompting a multi-agency response, according to the Port Orange Police Department.
Officers responded on the morning of July 12 to a disturbance call at a residence in the 6200 block of Palm Vista Street.
During the investigation, police arrested 30-year-old Owen Kelly. He was later transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail.
While processing the scene, officers discovered a concealed laboratory containing hazardous chemicals inside the residence.
The Port Orange Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit assumed responsibility for the criminal investigation involving the lab.
Authorities said the unit is working with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office East Side Narcotics Task Force, the Volusia County Fire Hazmat Team and the Drug Enforcement Administration to safely address the hazardous materials found in the home.
Investigators said no additional criminal charges have been filed in connection with the laboratory at this time, but the investigation remains ongoing.
