PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — A 38-year-old Punta Gorda woman has been arrested on a second-degree felony charge after home surveillance footage captured her engaging in a sexual act with a family dog, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office announced.
Malia Elizabeth Nummerdor, 38, was taken into custody following an investigation initiated by reports of social media posts detailing allegations of animal sexual abuse.
Social Media Reports and Surveillance Evidence
The investigation began after Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office detectives were alerted to social media posts alleging that a woman was engaging in sexual acts with a domestic pet. Detectives contacted the reporting party, obtaining sworn statements and digital files retrieved from an interior home surveillance system.
On September 15, 2026, detectives interviewed Nummerdor regarding the video evidence. During the interview, Nummerdor confirmed her identity in the video and identified the dog as the family pet. Investigators noted that the footage depicted Nummerdor partially nude and the animal positioned in a manner consistent with sexual activity.
When questioned about the footage, Nummerdor denied engaging in sexual conduct with the animal but failed to provide a consistent alternative explanation for the actions recorded on camera. She subsequently invoked her right to an attorney, concluding the interview.
Sheriff’s Statement and Custody Status
Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell released a statement condemning the alleged conduct and commenting on the suspect’s demeanor during booking:
“There are only a few times in my career that I have been at a loss for words. This is one of those times. I simply cannot comprehend this behavior. No animal should ever be subjected to this kind of conduct, and you can be sure that we will take action when we learn about it here in Charlotte County. And then to smile in the mugshot? I don’t know what there is to smile about when you’ve been arrested for something as disgusting as this.”
Nummerdor was formally charged with Sexual Activity Involving Animals under Florida law. She was transported to the Charlotte County Jail, where she remains held on a $35,000 bond.
