TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A 21-year-old Tallahassee man has been sentenced to more than four years in federal prison after authorities said he was caught with firearms twice while prohibited from possessing them because of a prior felony conviction.
Nathan Taylor Porter was sentenced to 51 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release after his conviction on two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The first incident occurred Oct. 17, 2025, when law enforcement officers searched Porter’s backpack and found a loaded .40-caliber pistol, according to federal prosecutors.
Porter admitted the gun belonged to him, prosecutors said. At the time, his prior felony conviction prohibited him from legally possessing firearms or ammunition.
Porter was awaiting trial in state court on the firearm case when authorities said he was caught with another gun on March 14, 2026.
Federal prosecutors did not provide details about the circumstances surrounding the second firearm or identify Porter’s prior felony conviction in the information released about his sentencing.
U.S. District Judge Allen C. Winsor imposed the 51-month sentence at the federal courthouse in Tallahassee.
Homeland Security Investigations, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Tallahassee Police Department and Leon County Sheriff’s Office jointly investigated the case.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph A. Ravelo prosecuted the case.
