Man Arrested, Another Facing Charges After Machete and Knife Attack in Lake City

A Lake City man has been arrested and another is facing charges following a disturbance in a wooded area that escalated into an attack involving a machete and a knife on Monday, May 19.

Lake City Police Department officers were at the Five Below store at 209 NW Hutton Drive at approximately 2:40 p.m. when several individuals approached them from a nearby wooded area, reporting a disturbance involving multiple people.

Further investigation revealed that two victims were attempting to retrieve personal items from the area when 40-year-old Chad Andrew Delair allegedly attempted to attack one of the victims with a machete. A second male suspect, identified as Jonathan Mahurien, reportedly also attempted to attack the same victim with a knife. The victims fled the area and contacted officers.

After the initial scene was cleared and peace was seemingly restored, Delair reportedly followed and threatened the victims again near the Lake City Mall. Officers quickly located Delair in a nearby parking lot and took him into custody without further incident.

Delair was arrested for two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and transported to the Columbia County Detention Center. His bond was set at $200,000. Charges against Mahurien have been forwarded to the State Attorney’s Office for review.
