Man Accused of Stealing Truck from Circle K in Gainesville Caught After Month-Long Investigation

A man suspected of stealing a truck from a Circle K on April 9, 2025, has been arrested following a search warrant executed at a Gainesville residence.

According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, the victim reported his vehicle stolen from the Circle K at 4310 SE Hawthorne Road after leaving it unattended while inside the store. Surveillance video showed a suspect arriving on a bicycle and leaving in the victim’s vehicle. The suspect could not be identified at the time, and the victim did not recognize him.

On May 9, Deputy J. Upshaw assisted the Gainesville Police Department at a residence in the 1500 block of SE 41st Avenue after a stolen motorcycle was tracked to the location. Two men fled on foot and were not immediately located, but one was identified as 35-year-old Gregory Steven Gibson, who had an active warrant out of Alachua County.

While on scene, Deputy Upshaw observed a large toolbox outside the residence. The following day, a Bradford County theft victim contacted law enforcement and reported a stolen toolbox matching the description.

A search warrant was obtained and executed. Gibson was on the property at the time and was arrested for his outstanding warrant. During the search, deputies recovered two stolen vehicles, including the truck taken from Circle K. The vehicle had been painted white to conceal its identity.

A photo lineup was conducted, and the victim positively identified Gibson as the individual who stole his vehicle.

Gregory Gibson has been charged with Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Theft of a License Plate and Decal. He is currently being held at the Alachua County Jail.
