On Tuesday night, June 4, at approximately 10:20 p.m., Charlotte County Fire crews responded to a commercial vehicle fire on Piper Road in Punta Gorda, directly in front of the FedEx building.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a street sweeper fully engulfed in flames. Engine 7 initiated the fire attack, with Engine 6 arriving shortly afterward to assist and establish a water supply. Battalion 1 also responded to the scene.
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office provided traffic control while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze. The driver of the street sweeper was able to escape unharmed, and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire has not been released.
