NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. – A Yulee man was arrested last week after a road rage confrontation escalated into gunfire while a child was present, according to the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office.
Jesse Robin Compton, 33, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and firing a gun into an occupied vehicle following an incident that occurred in November on Miner Road in Yulee.
Investigators said the victim was driving along Miner Road when they slowed to allow a turtle to cross the roadway. According to victim statements, Compton pulled up behind the vehicle, became angry, and passed on the right by driving into the grass.
A short distance later, Compton allegedly slowed and brake-checked the victim, causing the victim’s vehicle to strike Compton’s tow hitch. A witness told deputies both drivers were driving erratically at the time.
Authorities said Compton then backed his SUV into the victim’s vehicle, pushing it several feet backward. The victim reported that Compton exited his vehicle and fired a gun toward the victim’s car, striking it.
Cell phone video provided to detectives captured Compton stating that a child was inside his vehicle during the incident, a detail later confirmed by investigators.
Compton was booked into the Nassau County Jail and Detention Center on a bond set at more than $20,000. The investigation remains ongoing.
