GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Police say a shooting reported Tuesday night, March 10th, in the 1700 block of Northeast 8th Avenue did not occur at a nearby community center and was the result of an accidental firearm discharge involving two teenagers.
Officers initially responded to reports of a possible drive by shooting in the area. During the investigation, authorities worked to determine the exact location where the incident occurred.
Investigators have confirmed the shooting did not take place at the Clarence R. Kelly Community Center and Park. Officials said the community center and park remain safe.
Further investigation determined the incident involved two 19 year old males from Gainesville. Police believe one of the individuals accidentally discharged a firearm, striking himself while the bullet also grazed the second individual.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
