Suspect Fires At Jacksonville Officers During Foot Chase, Multiple Taken Into Custody

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officials are investigating a late-night incident in which officers were fired upon while pursuing suspects who fled a traffic stop.

According to Commander Jordan Dowling of Specialized Investigations, the incident occurred around 10:55 p.m. on March 16, 2026, near the intersection of East 26th Street and Haines Street in the Talleyrand area.

Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop when at least two suspects exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers pursued them, and the chase continued to East 28th Street.

During the pursuit, officers were fired upon multiple times by a suspect inside a nearby home. Authorities said no officers were struck by the gunfire, and officers did not return fire.

Officers quickly surrounded the residence and issued commands for those inside to come out. Individuals inside the home complied and were taken into custody.

One of the suspects connected to the initial traffic stop was apprehended. A second suspect who fled from the vehicle remains at large.

Investigators said there does not appear to be any connection between the suspects from the traffic stop and the individual who fired shots from inside the home.

Authorities also stated there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line at 904-630-0500. The investigation remains ongoing.
