Increasing coastal flooding this weekend

Water is running high on the St. Johns River not from recent rainfall but other factors that may result in Flood Advisories this weekend and early next week.

Tidal flooding has developed along the banks of the St. Johns River because of the steady onshore easterly winds. Flooding will stay high as tides get an extra tug higher from the full “strawberry” moon Saturday night June 3.

With persistent east winds increase in speed Sunday and Monday with gusts reaching over 30 mph which could cause further tidal flood rises to Minor Flood stage for the St. Johns basin  The peak of the tidal flooding event will likely occur during high tides late Sunday night into Monday morning.
