A school bus caught fire Wednesday morning on I-10 eastbound near Cassat Avenue.
Duval County Public Schools said there were no students on the bus at the time and the driver was safe. It is Durham bus No. 349.
The fire was reported around 8:30 a.m. and by 9 a.m. the bus was still smoking on the highway.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue said the bus ran over a mattress that was on the highway and that’s what sparked the fire.
All lanes of I-10 eastbound are closed. It’s not clear when the lanes might reopen.
