Organized Retail Theft Crew Arrested After High-Speed Chase in Port Orange

On December 30, 2024, detectives from the Port Orange Police Department uncovered a lead into an organized retail theft crew targeting businesses in the Daytona Beach and Port Orange area. The investigation led them to the Bath & Body Works store in Port Orange, where the suspects were in the process of committing a theft. Upon being interrupted, the suspects fled the scene in a white Ford Fusion.

The driver of the vehicle ignored commands to stop during a traffic stop, initiating a pursuit at high speeds and running red lights. Sergeant Rogers successfully deployed stop sticks, deflating the vehicle’s tires. As the suspects continued to flee, they began discarding stolen merchandise out of the vehicle’s windows.

The vehicle eventually became inoperable, prompting the driver to pull into a nearby neighborhood. Patrol officers and detectives surrounded the vehicle, and the suspects were ordered out and taken into custody without further incident.

Kayvon Brown, 27, of Daytona Beach, was arrested for fleeing or attempting to elude and driving without a driver’s license. Alexus Jones, 26, also of Daytona Beach, was arrested for grand theft. Zevante Taylor, 31, of Daytona Beach, was arrested for grand theft and tampering with evidence. Additional investigations are ongoing regarding their previous thefts, with further charges pending. All three suspects were booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail.
