On January 7, 2025, Pinellas County detectives arrested 35-year-old Nicholas Brown, a Certified Nursing Assistant from St. Petersburg, for two counts of Abuse or Neglect of an Aged or Disabled Person. The charges stem from an incident that took place on December 23, 2024, at Lake Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Dunedin.
The investigation began after a report revealed that Brown had battered two disabled residents at the facility, located at 1351 San Christopher Drive. The victims, both adult males, were unable to communicate due to their disabilities. One of the victims suffers from a Traumatic Brain Injury, and the other is a quadriplegic with intellectual disabilities. Both victims are non-verbal.
According to detectives, the abuse occurred when Brown, while caring for the victims in their room, struck them multiple times with an open hand on their legs, sides, and buttocks. The incidents were witnessed by another employee at the facility, who reported the abuse to authorities.
Both victims were evaluated and treated at the facility for non-life-threatening injuries. Brown’s employment at Lake Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility was terminated following the incident.
Brown was arrested on January 7, 2025, and transported to the Pinellas County Jail. His charges include two counts of abuse or neglect of an aged or disabled person.
Detectives are continuing their investigation and are asking anyone with additional information or potential victims to contact Corporal Antonio at 727-582-6722.
