Defense Attorney Arrested in Drug-Smuggling Operation at Duval County Jail

37-year-old Nathan Williams, a criminal defense attorney, was arrested on Sunday evening for allegedly smuggling drug-soaked papers into the Duval County Jail using his professional access. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office detectives charged Williams with eight felonies, including:

  • 2 counts of Giving Drugs to an Inmate
  • 2 counts of Giving or Receiving Communication from an Inmate
  • 2 counts of Conspiracy to Introduce Controlled Substances into the Jail
  • 2 counts of Unlawful Use of a Two-Way Communication Device

Investigators allege Williams collaborated with inmates and their families to smuggle legal paperwork laced with ADB-PINACA, a synthetic marijuana known as “K2” or “Paper Dope,” into the jail in exchange for money.

Williams’ arrest is part of “Operation Stamp Collection,” a long-term investigation aimed at curbing drug smuggling into the Duval County Jail. Since the operation began in February 2024, 21 individuals have been arrested for smuggling or attempting to smuggle drugs into the facility.

The operation was launched to address overdoses in the correctional facility, resulting in a 61% reduction in overdoses at the jail:

  • 2023: 23 overdoses
  • 2024: 9 overdoses

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional arrests are expected.
