At approximately 4:08 AM on March 4, 2025, Daytona Beach Police officers responded to a reported burglary and shooting at 506 Butler Blvd.
Upon arrival, officers encountered multiple witnesses and two injured victims. A preliminary investigation determined that several individuals were inside the residence when a knock was heard at the door. When the door was opened, two masked men armed with firearms forced their way inside.
During the altercation, one victim was pistol-whipped, while another was shot. The suspects then fled the scene. Both victims were transported to the hospital, where the pistol-whipped victim is expected to recover, but the shooting victim succumbed to his injuries.
John Fitzgerald Oliphant III, 20, has been arrested and charged with First-Degree Murder and Burglary with Battery. Investigators have determined that the suspects and victims were previously acquainted through drug-related activities. Authorities believe this was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
