A routine patrol by Lake City Police officers early Friday morning, June 13, 2025, led to the arrest of a 29-year-old man on sexual assault, drug, and alcohol charges after he was found with a minor at Lake DeSoto.
At approximately 12:48 a.m., officers were patrolling Lake DeSoto, located at 229 NE Lake DeSoto Circle, when they observed a suspicious vehicle parked at the helicopter pad entrance. As officers approached with their spotlights, they found two individuals engaged in intercourse in the front seat.
Further investigation of the vehicle and its occupants led to the discovery of an open liquor bottle and marijuana. Neither individual possessed a medical marijuana card. One of the occupants was identified as a minor, and the other was identified as 29-year-old Byron English, who was aware of the minor’s age.
English was arrested and charged with:
- F.S.S. 794.05(1) – Sexual assault – indecent, lewd, or lascivious touching of certain minors (victim aged 16 or 17, offender 24 years of age or older).
- F.S.S. 827.04(1)(a) – Contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
- F.S.S. 893.13 – Possession of marijuana (less than 20 grams).
English was transported to the Columbia County Detention Center without incident.
