Jacksonville City Council to honor civil rights activist Ben Frazier

Jacksonville City Council members are set to honor a civil rights activist who died last month after a 9-month battle with cancer.

Ben Frazier, who died at age 73, headed the Northside Coalition and would often speak out in protest at council meetings on many topics from Confederate monuments to Black Lives Matter.

The city council is introducing a resolution honoring him for his work.

“[Frazier] was known for the cadence of his voice that could fill a room,” the resolution reads. “Frazier was an inspiration through the words he chose to speak. He was a tireless voice for the voiceless.”

The resolution will be introduced at the meeting Tuesday night.
