NOAA Winter Weather seasonal forecast

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released its official Winter Outlook and it hinges much on El Niño and its impacts on the long-range weather pattern across the globe.

The Climate Prediction Center (CPC), says a “strong” El Niño, is likely to last through January. Locally El Niño typically brings wetter and cooler weather to Florida and limits deep freeze outbreaks.

The CPC forecast is expecting more rain and no significant trend for above-average or below-average temperatures.

The subtropical jet stream during El Niño winters drives several storms from the Gulf over Florida resulting in more severe tornado outbreaks but the southern track also reduces arctic air outbreaks into the deep south.
