70-year-old pedestrian in critical condition after being struck by car on SR-A1A in St. Johns County

A 70-year-old man was flown to a hospital with critical injuries after he was hit by a sports utility vehicle while crossing State Road A1A in St. Johns County Friday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP said the man, from St. Johns, was crossing the road from west to east near Euclid Avenue and had made it to the paved bicycle lane on the east shoulder when a car traveling north hit him.

According to the report, preliminary investigation indicates the driver, a 54-year-old man from Ocala, drifted from the northbound lane onto the bicycle lane.

The driver and passenger did not sustain any injuries.

The 70-year-old was flown by Life Flight to Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville with critical injuries, according to FHP.
