Heavy rains from the storms that slammed Northeast Florida Saturday and throughout the night have neighborhoods prone to flooding experiencing the aftermath.
Ken Knight Drive in the Ribault neighborhood was no different. Portions of the road were completely submerged in water, which is a norm for residents because the area sits close to the Ribault River.
Residents have complained to the city about these conditions, and in August city leaders met with them to discuss solutions to the plagued flooding problems.
Sunday morning, on Jacksonville’s westside, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office closed roads from Edgewood Avenue from West Beaver Street to Broadway Avenue because of the flooding.
A man was seen walking across the knee-deep waters.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area until the water starts to recede, making it safe to drive again. Some vehicles were still trying to drive despite the warning and road closure.
New4JAX saw a tow truck picking up a van that appeared to be stalled.
