January’s full ‘Wolf Moon’ lights up the sky on Thursday

The first full moon of 2024 will light up the night sky on Thursday.

On Thursday, Jan. 25, sky-gazers can look up into the night sky at the full moon of January known as the “Wolf Moon.”

January’s Full Moon is known as the Wolf Moon from the “packs of wolves heard howling outside the villages amid the cold and deep snows of winter,” according to NASA.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac said the moon will reach peak illumination on Thursday at 12:54 p.m. EST.

The moon will rise from the northeastern horizon around sunset. Golden Hour will be between 7:20 a.m. and 7:57 a.m. and 5:21 and 5:56 p.m. on Thursday, according to Moon Phase.

In Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia, clouds may play a factor in how well we will be able to see the moon. There’s a 50% chance of rain Thursday night. We will know closer Thursday the best times to look at the sky. Click here for more weather news.
