A pedestrian in his 60s was hit and killed by a school bus while crossing Mayport Road on Friday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
JSO said the pedestrian was crossing the road, from east to west, when a school bus driver struck him on the southbound lane of Mayport Road.
According to police, there were no students inside the school bus, and there was no crosswalk when the pedestrian was hit.
The victim was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
This marks the 13th traffic fatality this year, and the 5th pedestrian, according to JSO.
