Tax season is underway

It’s that time again. Tax season officially begins tomorrow.

The IRS expects to receive more than 128.7 million individual tax returns before the deadline to file. That deadline to file is April 15th.

Eligible taxpayers will be able to file their 2023 returns online directly with the I-R-S through a new, electronic direct file pilot. The I-R-S says it will be rolled out in phases and is expected to be widely available in mid-March.

Before you file grab your tax return from last year. It will give you a good indication of what documents you’ll need to file this year.

Consider the big changes that occurred in your life in 2023 Such as marriage, buying or selling a home, a divorce, or becoming widowed. This could impact how you file your return.

If you’re a small business owner check if you’ve received a 1099-K from a payment app. This includes apps like Venmo and Paypal etc.

Here’s what you’ll need to file. A Photo ID. Your social security number or tax ID number and your W2 forms.

Remember, missing just one document could potentially delay your check.

The IRS is advising against waiting until the last minute to file. Leaving yourself little to no time could lead to problems with your return and could impact its processing time.
