A man charged with first-degree murder in the September 2020 shooting of his 22-year-old girlfriend at a Jacksonville Amazon center was convicted Tuesday after the jury deliberated for just 20 minutes.
Daisean Biffle’s fatal shooting of Ebony Nicholas was caught on surveillance video at the Amazon center on Pecan Park Road, where they both worked.
The 52-second surveillance clip from Amazon, most of which is out of focus, appears to show two people walking downstairs, then stopping to talk. Something happens, and one person is seen running to the right while the other is seen falling into some plastic bins.
Biffle’s trial lasted two days and included the prosecution playing the Amazon surveillance video for the jury. Biffle’s defense attorney didn’t dispute he shot Nicholas but argued it was a crime of passion, not premeditated.
According to his arrest warrant, Biffle went to Amazon and asked workers where Nicholas was. Investigators determined Biffle shot Nicholas, then shot himself and survived.
About seven calls were made to 911, one of which was from a woman who told an operator that she witnessed what happened.
Biffle will be sentenced in March. He is facing life in prison without parole.
