On Saturday night, March 9th, around 9:30 pm, Clay County Sheriff Deputies, working off-duty at the Orange Park Mall, intervened to disperse and trespass a group of juveniles causing a disturbance. Additional on-duty Task Force deputies were called in to assist with the situation.
As the crowd was being moved towards the parking lot near the AMC Movie Theatre, a series of gunshots rang out nearby. Shortly after, a young adult male approached one of the deputies, stating he believed he had been shot.
Upon investigation, it was confirmed that the victim had sustained a gunshot wound to the arm. He was transported to HCA Orange Park with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office has initiated an investigation into the incident. Sheriff Cook emphasized, “We have zero tolerance for violence in Clay County. Expressing gratitude, Sheriff Cook thanked the deputies for their bravery in ensuring the safety of the county amidst challenging circumstances.
