Man Arrested for Murder After Fatal Shooting in Englewood

A shooting incident on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at around 4:00 p.m. prompted a response from Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office patrol officers to the 5600 block of Barnhill Drive in Englewood. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male victim, Carlos Maldonado-Perez, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was promptly transported to a local hospital by Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department due to the severity of his injuries.

Following the incident, diligent work by responding officers led to the identification and detention of the suspect, Jefferson Y. Rodriguez, a 20-year-old male. The Robbery and Violent Crimes and Crime Scene Units of JSO were called in to investigate. Despite medical efforts, Maldonado-Perez succumbed to his injuries several hours later, prompting JSO’s Homicide Unit to join the investigation.

On March 11th, the sheriff’s office announced that Jefferson Y. Rodriguez had been arrested for Murder in connection with the shooting death of Carlos Maldonado-Perez.
