Five Arrested in Connection with October 2023 Jacksonville Shooting Death

On Wednesday, October 18, 2023, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Patrol Officers responded to a reported shooting in the 2800 block of Sophia Street. Upon arrival, they found Javan Holmes, 30, with at least one gunshot wound. Despite efforts by Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, Holmes succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.

Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Crime Scene Units initiated investigations into the murder. Early in the probe, Anthony Beach, 21, Arron Sutherland, 21, Daisha Carney, 16, Laetitta Moore, 19, and Dylan Hallicy, 20, were identified as persons of interest and interviewed.

Subsequently, Sutherland was arrested for possession of a firearm by a Juvenile Delinquent. Detectives continued their work, leading to the issuance of arrest warrants on March 29, 2024. Sutherland was re-arrested on charges of 2nd Degree Murder, Attempted Murder, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Beach, Carney, and Hallicy were also apprehended and booked into the Pre-Trial Detention Facility for 2nd Degree Murder, while Moore faces charges of Accessory After the Fact.
