On Saturday, July 27th, a New Smyrna Beach Motor Officer, identified as Officer Riera, attempted to stop a motorcycle traveling at 91 mph in a 65 mph zone on SR-44. The motorcyclist fled northbound onto I-95, prompting a pursuit.
The motorcycle was later located and stopped by a Volusia Sheriff’s Office deputy and a Port Orange Police Department officer on the Dunlawton off-ramp. The driver, Mario Fois Morillo of Deltona, was arrested on charges of Fleeing and Eluding Law Enforcement, Reckless Driving, and Operating a Motorcycle Without a Motorcycle Endorsement.
The New Smyrna Beach Police Department emphasized their ongoing efforts to combat speeding and reckless driving, particularly on main thoroughfares within the city.
