Florida State Attorney Melissa Nelson announced that a Duval County jury found Jarrett Williams guilty of Second-Degree Murder. With the verdict, Williams faces up to life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Jonathan Sacks will sentence Williams at a later date.

On October 18, 2022, officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a person shot at an apartment on Cleveland Street. The victim was taken to the hospital by Jacksonville Fire and Rescue, where he was pronounced deceased. Witnesses told officers they saw the victim inside the apartment with Williams when they heard multiple gunshots. They reported that Williams then fled the scene holding a pink handgun. One witness stated that they observed Williams follow the victim into the back room of the apartment before the shooting occurred. Further investigation revealed that the victim owed Williams money and was at the apartment complex to confront him. Williams shot the victim during this encounter.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Annie Maguire and Joe Licandro.
