Florida State Attorney Melissa Nelson announced that a Duval County jury found Trevor Sigrist guilty of Felony Battery. Sigrist faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in Florida State Prison. Sentencing will be conducted by the Honorable Anthony Salem at a later date.
On June 1, 2023, the victim was discovered naked in the woods with extensive scratches and severe abrasions on her back and buttocks. A passerby reported the incident to 911, and the victim was taken to a nearby hospital where she was placed on a ventilator. Medical staff treated her for cuts, internal injuries, and a brain bleed.
An officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office spoke with the victim’s sister, who recalled dropping the victim off with Sigrist by the Wonderwood Bridge. Sigrist, who resides in a tent under the bridge, was later identified as the attacker. On June 6, 2023, after being removed from the ventilator, the victim reported to police that Sigrist had beaten her with a briar bush, dragged her through gravel by her hair, and that she only remembered waking up in the hospital. She also informed police that Sigrist’s anger stemmed from a debt her sister owed him for drugs.
Sigrist evaded capture for several months before being apprehended by patrol officers on September 8, 2023.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Paige West and Lee Wingard.
