Two Alabama Men Sentenced for Armed Robbery of USPS Mail Carrier

Marquan Deon Johnson, 25, and Keondre Dashown Daniels, 26, were sentenced to federal prison on charges related to an armed robbery of a United States Postal Service (USPS) mail carrier. Johnson received a 60-month sentence, while Daniels was sentenced to 117 months. The sentences were announced by Jason R. Coody, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida.

On July 21, 2023, in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, the USPS mail carrier was approached by Daniels, who pointed a handgun at her and forcibly took her mail key. Johnson, who was driving the getaway vehicle, and Daniels then fled the scene. The Fort Walton Beach Police Department identified Johnson’s vehicle through traffic camera footage and issued a Be on the Lookout (“BOLO”) alert. The vehicle was later located in Montgomery, Alabama, and both men were arrested by the Montgomery Police Department.

Fort Walton Beach Police Chief Robert Bage commended the quick and coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies. U.S. Postal Inspection Service Inspector in Charge, Juan Vargas, emphasized the commitment to ensuring a safe work environment for postal employees.

Johnson will also serve 5 years of supervised release following his prison term, while Daniels will serve 2 years of supervised release. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jeffrey M. Tharp.
