UF Health Jacksonville cut the ribbon today on the latest expansion of UF Health North, a state-of-the-art campus aimed at meeting the needs of residents in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia.
University of Florida leaders, including Ben Sasse, president of the University of Florida, along with representatives from UF Health, the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville, and UF Jacksonville Physicians, Inc., were joined by local government officials and key stakeholders to celebrate the opening of UF Health North’s second hospital bed tower. This expansion more than doubles the available bed space for patients in the community.
The new tower, which includes six floors and 124 patient rooms, features two floors dedicated to acute physical therapy, two floors for acute care, and one floor for ancillary services.
“This is another significant step as the University of Florida and UF Health expand our reach and dedication to education, innovation, and health care throughout Northeast Florida,” said Sasse.
Stephen J. Motew, MD, MHA, FACS, UF Health president and system CEO, emphasized the commitment to high-quality, compassionate care. “UF Health North has been embraced by this community, and that’s in large part due to the people who work here,” Motew said.
UF Health North first opened in 2015 with a medical office building, a 24/7 emergency room, outpatient surgery suites, and other services. Phase 2, completed in May 2017, introduced a 92-bed inpatient tower with a variety of specialized floors.
The new tower also features a collaboration with Select Medical, which provides physical rehabilitation services. The second and third floors are dedicated to this initiative, including a gymnasium, outdoor space, and resources for patient recovery.
Patrick L. Green, FACHE, CEO of UF Health Jacksonville, highlighted the importance of the expansion: “We’re proud to provide this amazing resource to the community, which expands our presence even further in the region.”
