On October 24, 2024, detectives with the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) arrested 75-year-old Michael Coburn for multiple counts of Possession of Child Pornography.
Coburn’s arrest is the result of a lengthy investigation conducted by Detective Patrick Martin of the CCSO High Tech Crimes Unit (HTCU) in partnership with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.
This case was initiated when Detective Martin received a NCMEC report identifying potential images of child pornography associated with a residence in Citrus County. Applying innovative investigative strategies, Detective Martin was able to confirm that images of child pornography were being possessed and distributed by Coburn.
Based on the results of his investigation, Detective Martin and other members of the CCSO Criminal Investigations Division (CID) served a search warrant on Coburn’s residence on October 24, 2024.
After initial digital forensic examinations by Detective Nicholas Norton, additional child sexual exploitation material was located on Coburn’s electronic devices. On October 28, 2024, Coburn was re-arrested for multiple counts of Transmission of Child Pornography.
“The CCSO High Tech Crimes Unit will continue to diligently work to put monsters like this away. The damage caused by Coburn’s possession and promotion of this offensive content impacts individuals well beyond the boundaries of Citrus County,” said Sheriff Mike Prendergast. “Somewhere in this world, an innocent child was traumatized because predators like Coburn have created a market for their exploitation.”
In total, Coburn was arrested for 13 counts of Possession of Child Pornography and ten counts of Transmission of Child Pornography. He was being held at the Citrus County Detention Facility with a bond of $280,000.00, set by the first appearance Judge prior to bonding out.
