Shooting in Downtown Orlando Leaves Two Dead, Multiple Injured; 17-Year-Old Suspect Arrested

Early on November 1, 2024, at approximately 1:07 a.m., officers responded to reports of shots fired at the intersection of Central Blvd. and Orange Ave. Moments later, a second shooting was observed by officers south of Washington Street on Orange Avenue, resulting in a total of eight victims shot. Tragically, two individuals have been pronounced deceased, while six others were transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC) in stable condition. The victims’ ages range from 19 to 39 years old.

Shortly after the initial reports of gunfire, officers on OPD’s Downtown Detail located a suspect at the intersection of Washington St. and Orange Ave. The suspect, identified as 17-year-old Jaylen Dwayne Edgar, has a prior arrest record for Grand Theft in 2023.

Edgar has been charged with two counts of First-Degree Murder with a Firearm and six counts of Attempted First-Degree Murder with a Firearm. Following the shooting, the Orlando Police Department released video footage of the incident and the subsequent arrest of Edgar.

One additional victim self-transported to a local hospital later on Friday morning and is currently in stable condition, bringing the total number of victims to ten.

The Orlando Police Department is seeking assistance from the public. They request anyone with photos or videos from the shooting to submit evidence through a simple process via their online portal at bit.ly/SubmitEvidence_OPD.

In response to the incident, OPD emphasizes that safety remains their top priority, noting that nearly 100 officers were patrolling Downtown at the time due to the large crowd expected for Halloween celebrations. The department is also evaluating the need for increased patrols in Downtown this weekend.
