Jacksonville to Honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at 38th Annual Unity Breakfast

The City of Jacksonville, in partnership with the NAACP Jacksonville Branch, Jacksonville Urban League, and JAX Chamber, will host the 38th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast on Friday, January 17, 2025. The event, presented by Florida Blue, will take place at the Prime F. Osborn III Convention Center. Doors open at 7 a.m., and the program begins at 8 a.m.

Mayor Donna Deegan underscored the event’s significance:
“The Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Breakfast is an opportunity to honor his legacy and embrace a shared vision of unity, equality, and progress. We’re honored to have bestselling author Jonathan Eig bring past and present together as the keynote speaker. All citizens are invited to participate in this storied tradition and be part of our ongoing work to build a city where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”

Keynote Speaker: Jonathan Eig

The breakfast, hosted by Dawn Lopez of Action News Jax and Anthony Austin of First Coast News, will feature Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jonathan Eig as the keynote speaker. Eig’s book, King: A Life, is regarded as the definitive biography of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

A celebrated historian, Eig has authored six books, including four New York Times bestsellers. His accolades include the Barbara and David Zalaznick Book Prize from the New York Historical Society and a PEN America Literary Award. Eig also served as a consulting producer for Ken Burns’ PBS documentary series Muhammad Ali.
