Port Charlotte Elderly Woman Sentenced to Federal Prison for Threatening Texas Judge

U.S. District Judge Sheri Polster Chappell has sentenced Alice Marie Pence, 68, of Port Charlotte, Florida, to 10 months in federal prison for threatening a United States district judge in the Northern District of Texas. Pence pleaded guilty on June 28, 2024, to the charge of influencing a federal official by threat.

Court documents revealed that Pence made an interstate telephone call from the Middle District of Florida to the chambers of the Texas-based judge. In a voicemail, she demanded the judge “make the right decision” regarding a pending case over which the judge was presiding.

The case was investigated by the United States Marshals Service. Assistant United States Attorney Matthew Weybrecht of the Northern District of Texas initiated the prosecution, while Assistant United States Attorney Mark Morgan of the Middle District of Florida handled the plea agreement and sentencing.
