Jacksonville Man Sentenced to Seven Years for Firearm Possession as a 7-Time Convicted Felon

Senior U.S. District Judge Timothy Corrigan has sentenced 41-year-old Anthony Tyrone Mackey of Jacksonville to seven years in federal prison for possessing firearms as a convicted felon. A federal jury convicted Mackey on August 27, 2024.

The conviction stems from an incident on March 29, 2023, when officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office stopped Mackey for driving on the wrong side of the road. Mackey, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was found in possession of cocaine and methamphetamine in the front passenger seat. A 12-gauge shotgun was located on the back passenger-side floorboard, and a .25 caliber pistol was found in a backpack on the back passenger seat. DNA analysis later confirmed that Mackey’s DNA was on the shotgun and its magazine.

Mackey, a seven-time convicted felon with previous charges including possession of a short-barreled shotgun and aggravated assault, is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys John Cannizzaro and Brenna Falzetta.
