On Tuesday, January 14, 2025, Officer Malik Daricaud of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) received a heartwarming surprise from the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Foundation: a $142,000 donation that has now made his home mortgage-free.
The generous gift comes after Officer Daricaud, who has shown unwavering dedication to his community, was severely injured in the line of duty nearly two years ago. On March 26, 2023, while assisting in the apprehension of a suspect, Daricaud was struck by gunfire. The suspect opened fire, and a bullet hit the flashlight Daricaud was holding, causing shrapnel to ricochet into his neck and shoulders, resulting in severe spinal cord injuries.
Following the traumatic incident, Officer Daricaud underwent an intense 400-day rehabilitation period before finally being discharged in April 2024. Despite the challenges of his recovery, he has continued to serve Jacksonville, working in the Real Time Crime Center to support his fellow officers and the city’s residents.
The FOP Foundation’s donation is a life-changing gesture for Daricaud and his family, providing them with much-needed financial relief as they continue to navigate the long-term effects of his injuries. The organization expressed its gratitude for his service and courage, acknowledging Officer Daricaud’s commitment to Jacksonville in the face of adversity.
The FOP Foundation’s donation is a powerful reminder of the community’s support for its law enforcement officers, especially those who risk everything to protect and serve.
