Bradenton Police Arrest Father of Suspect in Fatal Hit-and-Run, Search for Son Ongoing

The Bradenton Police Department (BPD) has arrested Jose Torres, 59, on charges of accessory after the fact in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred Saturday night. Investigators allege that Torres knowingly aided his son, Julio Torres, in avoiding arrest after the incident.

Julio Torres remains at large, with BPD and local, state, and federal agencies actively working to locate him.

On Saturday, January 18, 2025, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Julio Torres was reportedly speeding northbound on 15th Street W. when he lost control of his vehicle, struck a pole, and fatally hit 26-year-old Clarence Brooks, who was sitting or sleeping near the sidewalk. Torres fled the scene on foot before officers arrived.

An arrest warrant for Julio Torres was issued on Sunday. He faces charges of vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of a crash involving death, and driving with a suspended license.
