On January 23, 2025, 53-year-old Undray Benson was found guilty of First-degree Murder during a bench trial for the 2022 death of 31-year-old Antwain Jamar Hart. Following the conviction, Judge James R. Baxley sentenced Benson to Life in prison, in accordance with Florida law.
“The actions of this defendant were calculated, deliberate, and devoid of remorse,” said Walter Forgie, Chief Assistant State Attorney. “Justice demands accountability for such actions.”
The murder occurred on November 8, 2022, when Umatilla Police responded to a shooting on Merrell Ave. Hart was found shot multiple times in his mother’s front yard. Witnesses reported a white Mercedes near the scene, and investigators later discovered the victim’s rental vehicle abandoned at a nearby church.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation, where surveillance footage linked a 2015-2017 Mercedes Benz CLS to Marvin Ellison, a co-defendant, near the crime scene. Phone records and additional footage revealed a coordinated effort to murder Hart, likely driven by the victim’s involvement with illegal narcotics.
A search of an apartment linked to Benson uncovered drugs and a 9mm handgun matching the weapon used in the murder. The two other co-defendants, Deandre Anderson and Marvin Ellison, are set to stand trial next week.
Assistant State Attorneys Gabriel Lozano and Nicholas Camuccio led the prosecution in this case.
